(see video below)<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"videoContainer\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/251579768?app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" title=\"telix performance with Pedro Lopes\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>\n<p>SomoS is pleased to announce the Sound-art installation and performance series \u201cTelix\u201d by visual\/sound artist, instrument builder and composer Thessia Machado (US\/BR), presented at the SomoS gallery space from May 17th \u2013 20th 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The event takes place within the framework of Thessia Machado\u2019s \u201cInga Maren Otto Fellowship in Music Composition\u201d of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanacademy.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The American Academy in Berlin<\/a> as member of its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanacademy.de\/fellows-distinguished-visitors\/class-of-fellows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spring 2017 Class of Fellows<\/a>. (more info <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanacademy.de\/event\/telix-sound-installation-performance-series\/\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Machado\u2019s installation features wall-mounted, photosensitive sound modules, which are conducted by light patterns from a graphic score traveling on a mechanical apparatus built from a deconstructed fax machine.<\/p>\n<p>Several performances and an artist\u2019s talk with noted fellow sound-artists are scheduled around her installation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Performance Dates and Times:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, May 17, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>6:30 p.m. \u2013 Opening Reception<br \/>\n(To attend, please send an email to jte@americanacademy.de)<\/p>\n<p>7:30 p.m. \u2013 Artist talk<br \/>\nBetween Thessia Machado and Sound-artist and educator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.udk-berlin.de\/en\/people\/detail\/person\/volker-straebel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volker Straebel,<\/a>, Head of department, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.udk-berlin.de\/en\/courses\/sound-studies-and-sonic-arts-master-of-arts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sound Studies and Sonic Arts, Universit\u00e4t der K\u00fcnste Berlin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.straebel.de\">Volker Straebel<\/a> (1969) is a musicologist focusing on experimental and electro-acoustic music, sound art, intermedia, performance and concept art. Since 2015, he has been director of the Sound Studies Master program at the Berlin University of the Arts, after having served as director of the Electronic Music Studio at the Technical University Berlin. He has realized and performed electronic music and indeterminate works by John Cage and others. In sculptures and interactive installations that have a real-time, live component, the expressive potential is still active and changeable.<\/p>\n<p>As a extension of this practice, and under the moniker link, she also performs electronic and electro-acoustic experimental music with hand-made and modified instruments.<\/p>\n<p>Thessia\u2019s installations and video pieces have been exhibited in New York, London, Philadelphia, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Berlin and Athens.
